Telling a Story Workshop
with Matt Brown and Dick Garvey
Tell A Story

A workshop on how to tell a powerful story with your images, with instructors Matt Brown and Dick Garvey

Learn to tell a story using powerful images.  Not one image, but a brief body of work that works together.   Images that  "tell us what it's like and why we would want to visit."

Images that make us want to go to Lopez Island, (that is how Matt Brown got his assignments for magazines, by telling a story - a writer then would be assigned to put it into words. He did a story for Coastal two years ago on Lopez. They paid for stories whether they were published or not.

Part of every story has to include images of the people from/visiting the area.  Gardening, working on nets, having a picnic etc.  Or images of visitors: hiking to Shark Reef, loafing in the park etc.

Our team of instructors will work with the students on fine tuning their images.  We will discuss photography basics as well as go over file types - JPEG and RAW.  Not too technical but some general information.  This workshop is for beginners to advanced.

We will also have time to experiment and play with Panoramic and HDR shots, for those interested.

ASSIGNMENT WILL BE : create a body of work of Lopez Island that tells us a Story.

*three opening images to make others want to read the story.
